The 201 Challenge is over~ Here are the last two assignments.
I have to say at the beginning I was feeling rather negative about the assignments not feeling that they were contributing to anything new to what I was already doing. It was feeling very similar to the zerotohero challenges I did earlier in the year and it was meant to be completely different.
However…upon having nit picked through the assignments and as they went on, I did get some great tips and learned a lot more than I thought I would, so I would say for ‘me’ it was of benefit, though absolutely crazy to do when a) going away for a weeks holiday and b) already doing another challenge.
Today’s assignment: create a recurring blogging event on your site, and/or make plans to attend a conference.
This was a fun note to end on. This was all about networking, indulging in prompts, creating events, conferencing etc etc .
Now I have Macro Monday regularly, a Wordless Wednesday, which on my Living in East Sheen blog is a photo taken from the local surrounding area. I sometimes have Thoughtful Thursdays if I have nothing else to post, which usually involves a quote, from the A-Z blogging this has enthused my love for quotes & I seemed to get a great feedback from readers with this, so I shall monitor it to see how it continues. I love things that create debates or conversations.
I am also doing a fun post for Saturdays, these are things i can pre-schedule and see how popular.
I enter prompts all the time and try to look back at other peoples entries to comment back and get that link going, it does all take ages thought the more you do but broadens ones circles.
As far as hosting one, no i am not ready yet nor have the time. I would like to have a guest poster, I have already talked to someone who is a great photographer who might guest for me on Macro Mondays 🙂
Today’s assignment: put on your CEO suit and think through whether marketing and monetizing are right for your blog. If so, take one step.
This was an interesting and slightly controversial one for me in thought. You see I don’t like the adverts on blogs and in fact think I should pay the difference to get them removed. Apparently you can join a scheme where you can apply to an affiliate links program, where merchants would pay you for any customers you refer to them via your content. Amazon Associates is the biggest and most popular. I think if you are a small time blogger who at present doesn’t particularly promote specific brands or do reviews this would just appear odd, I mean why would someone take ‘your’ word to think “oh yes I will go and buy that product”. As a consumer I would go to Amazon direct and look at the reviews. It all boils down to the type of blog and readership/clicks/follow base.
They also talked about donate buttons, i have seen people talk about just having a low number of followers and having a donate button. The thing is, whilst it is everyones choice to do what they want, I really don’t think this helps. You have to give to get. Just writing ad hoc whilst giving some reading pleasure to a few doesn’t really insight one to start parting with either hard earned money or money one doesn’t have.
To me I find adverts off putting unless they are the ones there put by WP on the free blogs. I also find the Donate button offputting unless the blog is really offering something exchangeable in their time and quality or product they are selling.
As for me I am not at that stage..yet..and might never be.
Currently I promote myself merely through social media and am enjoying promoting others which I hope in a goes about round about way will come back to me also.
If I had written a book, or made things, painted, anything like this then yes I would promote definitely hopefully through the right mediums and not on overkill!
As always thank you for reading/viewing, xx
