It’s Caturday

It’s Caturday

{Imagine a rather posh graceful voice as you read this 😀 }

Hello, I would like to introduce myself to my mummy’s blogging fraternity as I don’t show up often.

My name is Purdey, I am 17, which in cat years I guess makes me a bit of a veteran, though the Queen has not written to me quite yet, maybe it got lost in the post.

I used to be the Queen of Sheeba in this house, but unfortunately in the harshness of the animal world the old and weak get demoted, in my case the struggle still goes on, but the big old fat ginger chap in this house, called PeeWee, who is also a veteran at 15 years old, is trying to take over.

I live in rather a busy house, shall I tell you a little bit about it?

I think I saw you nod, so I shall continue.

I live with four humans, there is one large one that mummy calls Shrek, I am not sure why, but I do know he is loud and as smelly as the dog, in that my nostrils are often offended by rear end gaseous explosions.  I am sure he does other things, but being a cat, seeing as he doesn’t feed me, nor stroke me, I am not interested in this human being.

There are two small varieties of Shrek, they are sometimes as loud, sometimes quieter, but certainly very energetic which can be quite exhausting at times.  They do however attempt to pick me up, I am not really a lap cat, so I tolerate this as I get the odd stroke and perhaps one of them might be instructed to feed me.

I am partial to a cup of tea, or drinking from a human glass rather than from the bowl on the floor, this apparently is quite annoying and I get told off for this.

My mummy sometimes instructs the older one to give me these weird things, they call pills in to my mouth, I object to this quite strongly.

Purdey for Caturday

Purdey for Caturday

I don’t have as many teeth as I used to, but if I can use them, I will. So nowadays they use this plastic long thing which seems to fire this object in to my mouth, fingers evading my teeth.

If I am quick and feeling clever, I can catch this orange pellet which they keep telling me will keep me alive, with my tongue.  I hold this for a moment and when they are not looking I spit it out and carry on with my day.

When they find the pills or I am caught, I get told off, that they are £1 a go, this is of no relevance to me and I am sure I am not ill, I feel fine, though I am so much skinnier than I used to be.

Then of course there is mummy.  She gives me strokes, sometimes brushes me, but always looks worried like she does, like when she gets out her fine china.

Mummy wants me to pose, ever since she started this blogging malarky, she says Mara’s cats pose, quite frankly I don’t care about Mara’s cats and if I met them I would have a good old word with them.

Can you imagine, I am sleeping of all things, she crouches down, I know she can’t last long because of her back.  Then she clicks her hands, makes some noises like I am going to listen.  I wait patiently, knowing she will have to stand eventually and I will be out of modelling range.

But now the modelling has intruded in to my dining habits, apparently Mara told her that she might get me to model whilst eating.  I mean seriously?  Would you humans want a camera stuck in your face when you have a mouthful? Really?

Then Mara said she might catch me whilst I am grooming?  Seriously again?  Would you be wanting to wash your lady bits and have a photographer burst in?  I don’t think so…sighs!

I need to talk to Mara!

Mummy goes out and sources me all kinds of lovely treats, because apparently it is very important that I eat.  I am a fussy eater, especially now.  I think age gives one a distinctive palette.

Mummy used to give me biscuit type treats with my meat and I liked these a lot, the only thing I wasn’t very clever about this and went on a meat hunger strike and would sit there with my large eyes meowing for more treats, refusing to eat the meat.

Mummy isn’t stupid and gave me a bit of tough love, I have learn’t that life is not all about treats, I’ve got to eat the good and the bad if I want the good.

The first home I remember is Battersea Dog’s Home, someone got me from there and I used to live in a small flat with what seemed like a zoo and a young girl.

I used to mind my own business amongst the other cats, rabbits and expanding variety of four legged animals until this young human got a man friend, I think they call them boyfriends.

She decided she needed to downsize her animals.

This is where mummy came in.

She came to visit once, I rather liked her, she smelt good.

I heard her talking and the young girl showing her the black cat under the table that was an agarophobic.  Mummy said to the young girl she had another cat, a ginger one, Kitty was his name, she wanted a friend for him, but a cat that was an agoraphobic like him.

The black cat wouldn’t come out from under the table, he wasn’t selling himself well.

I had fun though, I ran around and around my to be mummy’s legs.  Mummy laughed.  She asked if this one was for sale too.  The young girl said, that I could be, but that I liked to go outside.  My to be mummy hesitated.  I ran around her legs more and really purred.

Hook line and sinker is the phrase that comes to mind.

I went home with  mummy!

Kitty died.

Another ginger boy however ended up coming to the house…sighs!

Then a dog.

Sighs some more….

Then another dog

Then one less dog

This is my life!

Signed…Purdey xxx

      • January 11, 2015 at 5:45 PM

No dogs, just an ex gerbil (as of yesterday 😦 ). Thinking of getting a dog in Pretoria. Might write a blog post about this. No it’s the shrek like husband description that particularly resonated!

Purdey is beautiful! My cat Stripey is 16. He gets medicine too,but fortunately his thyroid medicine comes in a cream I put in his ear!

wow in cream? i didnt know they did that i shall have to talk to my vets about that hehe

      • January 11, 2015 at 10:45 PM

Yes, the medicine is compounded at a nearby people pharmacy and I get it from them after the vet calls in the prescription! This has been much easier than pills! Stripey still squirms sometimes when I go for the inside tip of his ears but then I feed him and all is well! I wear a glove tip so I don’t get the medicine myself. If hyperthyroid is Purdey’s issue, it might work for you too!

Ooh, but you should do at least occasional Caturdays, it’s my favourite meme! And you’re good at it 🙂

oh Justine – loved this – last week my cat threw up once a day – I called the vet, they said monitor and wait, I stopped his food, monitored and waited, he stopped throwing up, I cancelled the vet, he threw up again, I took him on monday. Seems that vets are more expensive than doctors – did full blood tests on him including thyroid, injected anti-emetics (!!), gave me some special food for sensitive tummies, de-wormed him (which is good and I am grateful for), and then sent me home with protone pump inhibitors…..which I didnt give him as it is impossible to get him to swallow the stuff, I usually end up sitting on his head and holding his mouth closed while he froths and froths and spits bits of pill at me…his kidneys arent too good though so might need to put him on daily drugs and then I will have to get a pill shooter, or use my other method, throw in the pill and inject stream of water into his mouth so he has to swallow..hmb – I see you have similar challenges

wow, sit on his head? I am surprised he is still alive lolol. Crickey..yes get a pill shooter, honestly it saves a lot of trouble, works wonders as long as you shoot it in the right direction and make sure they don’t choke, but then you would be able to do a cat henrich manoevure or whatever they call it right? x

      • January 11, 2015 at 8:24 PM

cat henrich – ah yes – I would try it too you know – my cat is very resilient – he lets me trim his claws he never bites or scratches but he draws the line at taking medication, not sure they sell pill shooters here, we are the land of doing things the way our ancestors did – the hard and old-fashioned way..might have to get one in the UK – vet never offered – but using a syringe to spurt water also works wells 🙂

So what are you spurting water on? lol…I am confused if your trying to get a pill in their mouth wouldn’t squirting water be the worst thing as cats hate water? lol…
