Peach and Blueberry Sangria & Happy Anniversary Fiesta Friday!

Peach and Blueberry Sangria & Happy Anniversary Fiesta Friday!

Fiesta Friday badgeCan you believe we are at Fiesta Friday #52 ?

Today is a special day, well actually the next two weeks as we are celebrating the first Anniversary of the Fiesta Friday Blog Hop Parties.

The Fiesta Parties are hosted by Angie, who writes The Novice Gardener.  She doesn’t seem to write much about gardening, but oh boy her cooking and photography is spectacular.  In fact Angie was my first ever follower, so I have a lot of sentimental and emotional attachment to this whole thing.

So much so that I went out to buy a cocktail glass especially for this occasion as there was no way I was missing it.  Actually I nearly thought I might have to miss it as I only saw Appetizers & Amuse-Bouches being the requirement for week 1 of this event and totally missed the word cocktails, and we really aren’t a Appetizer kinda family! So much so I had to look up what Amuse-Bouches meant.

Who doesn’t love a cocktail?

So before I bring the cocktails, I just want to say a little more, yes please bear with me, hang on in there I shall stop rabbiting in a short while.

So you see below two pictures, they are shelves and absolutely busting at the seams of cook books.  They are now covered in dust.  Why is that?  Well ever since Fiesta Friday’s started there has been absolutely no need for the use of a cook book lol.  I actually created my own private scrapbook and I squirrel away many of the amazing delicous recipes that I see each week with the intention that one day I will try them out.

Now the other day I actually did dig out The Curry Bible, my son had chosen it.  I flicked through the pages and nothing inspired me, not the  photography nor the content and I thought, this isn’t half as good as SimplyVegetarian777‘s food on her blog, another fellow participant for Fiesta Friday.  So I can definitely say that I am now very spoilt and fussy with all the amazing cooks’ and chefs’ offerings though they won’t call themselves that.

Now I remember back to the First Fiesta Friday, I was nervous to put something in but wanted to support Angie.  I thought to myself I am not a cook, I am a writer, or wannabe writer, so what did I do?  I brought a dance, yup you got it right.

Here it is: Flaming skirts, fiestas and a bit of Oooh lala!

Over the weeks Angie convinced me I should put a food related entry in and I finally got the courage and it’s been fabulous fun, I have got in to the groove.

I do not think I have missed a Fiesta Friday and over the months.  I have seen entries turn from great,  to WoWEEEEee, it has certainly transformed over the months, the entries are incredibly professional looking and amazing in content and some of them call themselves amateurs? lol

My Party Offering for this week, wow it tasted really good – Peach and Blueberry Sangria

Blueberry peach sangria

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe peaches, rinsed
  • 1 cup blueberries, plus extras for garnish
  • 1 bottle of chilled wine.  I used a Sauvignon Blanc, you could use a Moscato or one perhaps just lying in wait in your fridge ready to rock and roll.
  • some sugar
  • 1 x lemon

Directions:

  1. Cut three of the peaches into a dice. Add to a glass pitcher. Cut the fourth peach into thin wedges and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, lightly muddle the blueberries. Add to the pitcher.
  3. Pour the wine into the pitcher and stir gently to combine. Chill until ready to serve.
  4. I then cut the lemon up in to a wedge and slid it around the lip of the glass.
  5. Then dip the lid in the sugar, mmm it really is yummy and reminds me of the 80’s oops musn’t give away my age there.
  6. To serve, make sure each glass gets fruit from the pitcher.
  7. I put some slices of peach on the side, or you could skewer some on depending on the size of your glass, then drink! 😉

Fiesta Friday Anniversary Party Time

So I would like to say after all of this a huge congratulations to Angie and a big thank you for creating and hosting all these Fiesta Friday’s.  I know how much hard work goes in to hosting and through this so many bloggers’ get to have fun, meet each other and find recipes that are truly outstanding.

Big huggles and glasses of sangria offered my end to all – Justine xxx

The website’s not up yet, almost. I gave the hubs your email, but he’s been so busy with getting the thing up, he hasn’t had time. It will be Snownj.com, but I’m not sure if he’s decided on which pics he’s going to use yet. Don’t worry, though, he won’t use anything of yours without a consult first.

I am certainly ready for one of these refreshing, fruity drinks about now. Apart from this much-appreciated contribution to the party, I also enjoy reading your thoughts and reminiscing. Like you, I have relied a good deal on Fiesta Friday recipes for everyday and not so everyday cooking. I do remember your flamenco post – thanks for reminding me. I thought it a fun addition to the party. I can’t recall what my first submission was, but I do know I had no idea what an important part of my week Friday would become. I think my interest in cooking has been much affected by it. Hope you and your family have a lovely weekend.

I love this recipe – I only wish I’d spotted it yesterday in time for my pre-Aussie day BBQ (although to be honest I would have been the only one drinking it, so maybe it’s a good thing after all). I will definitely be giving this a try – I am quite obsessed with peaches at the moment (example: https://foodtouristconfessions.wordpress.com/2015/01/14/summer-lovin/ – I made this salad again last night)!

    Thanks for sharing 🙂
