The chiccas meet up in London!

The chiccas meet up in London!

I am very errant in posting this so late, life has been grabbing me by many pairs of hands and keeping me busy, overly busy.  But not this weekend just gone but the one before was a very special time for me.

Last November I met through Photo101 a few new blogger buddies, ones that I just hit it off with instantly and since then we have been in communication through various formats and having fun!

With Lucile I have been having many chats, crazy chats, the craziness mostly instilled by myself and I am always amazed at the twists and turns the conversations take, but that is how it is with great friends right?  With Desley we have a four legged romance going on, her cute Gidget and my Teddy.   There is evidence through Twitter of many #puppylove messages going back and forth.  But moreso, just conversing with Desleys gentle nature is like a breath of fresh air.

Then the opportunity to meet came up.  I jumped at the chance, threw myself in legs and arms and offered my house as a bolt hole.  The offer was taken up, the weekend arrived.  Lucile and hubby were taking a flight over from Amsterdam to come and see me for the Saturday night and suddenly I was overwhelmed, thinking crickey these people are getting on a plane just to come and see me.  Then Desley who had already flown over from Australia, diverted her much loved fun in Cambridge and came to see me also, before flying away with Lucile and hubby back to Amsterdam to go to a Kings Party!!!

I must admit I spent two weeks like a nutter, tidying up my very eclectic and then messy house.  Then the night before came, the nerves started, then the morning, wow, butterflies in my stomach “how will we get on, will it be as good as when we text and chat, will there be awkward moments, will the connection still be there?”  I am sure these are common thoughts and questions in these situations.

I had nothing to fear, in fact I could not have imagined a weekend to go better and I was on a high afterwards of which I did eventually come down with a great big thud.

I met Lucile and hubby first.  I opened the door and flung my arms around her like a wolf grasping it’s prey, she didn’t scream of flinch and embraced me back.  Then it was time to give her hubby a not quite so wolfish hug (seeing as he is 6ft something and towers above me) and we huddled in to the house where conversation started to flow and my nerves began to calm.

I will mention that Lucile also enabled my chocolate addiction by bringing me a copious amount of treats, of which I have squirrelled most away to a safe destination where no-one will find the, hopefully I will be able to, but with my memory there is no guarantee.  I also got gifted some gorgeous pottery, simply divine.

It’s a different thing meeting people who are in some ways strangers but to have them where you live, being a hostess, will the kids behave etc etc, lots of things to throw in to the cooking pot.

Desley then arrived not long after, she was welcomed with a wolf hug too (really I know don’t say it, wolves don’t hug), the kids arrived at the same time, plus Shrek.

It was like finding the last pieces of the puzzle, everything slotted in nicely and flowed smoothly.  I felt an aura of friendship blossoming and infusing through the house, banter ensued and smiles dotted around the room.

We had a big lunch, plenty of fizzy stuff, then a walk through Richmond Park, then my local pub, then back for more drinks and games of rummy.  Of which it turned out that Desley was superior and thrashed us all.  We will be practising for the next time we meet.

I had to include this photo, my photography antics were getting less by this time, but I caught Desley giving me one of her discerning looks and changed her in to the Mona Lisa me thinks!  Lovely.

I did get Lucile’s camera, without it being in her hand, but I have now lost it, it’s probably gone back home to her hand LOL!  She’s a sneaky one, turn your back and there she is taking a shot, left, right, centre, up , down, no one is safe when Lucile is around.

Ok, now I know these are nutty.  I never even saw the film these characters came from.  But Desley gave me Stuart I think his name is and her’s is Lucy, well it seems not only the dogs are having a love in but well Stuart and Lucy had a drinking night, cards and cake, what more could two plastic people want?  The redhead gets the guy!  I think Teddy wants to eat them.

The next morning we all woke up bleary eyed, well I did, but the others seemed bushy tailed and bright eyed.  I made them a special breakfast and started to get that horrible sick feeling knowing that the end was looming.

I must say I had a hard job of holding back my tears, silly I know, or is it?  These are two people that I am very sad about that they don’t live here, but hey Amsterdam isn’t too far and well Desley WILL BE BACK, as Arnie said!

I have heard people say many a time that online friendships can be fickle.  I myself have spent a long time online in the gaming environment (in the past, not now), but know that friendships can be ‘made’ online, but the minute you step away you are forgotten about, the minute you no longer log online, you don’t exist and this can be very, very hard especially when emotions are invested.

However, I have a great feeling that this is very different and that our friendships will stand the test of time and that we will meet again very very soon.  In fact planning on it.

I have affectionately gone from calling them (us) the 3 Muskateers to The Chiccas!  My lovely chiccas ❤

So if you have some blogger buddies you want to meet, go and do it, take a chance, you will most likely be pleasantly surprised.

PS If your reading this, chiccas, I miss you guys! ❤

The other day a fellow blogger commented on one of my posts with the most thoughtful lecture about how I should be enjoying my last few days of college instead of writing blog posts about my anxieties about graduating from college and I thought man, this sounds like something my mom or grandma would say to me. It’s amazing the relationships you can develop with people here and how much those relationships start to mean to you. 🙂

Oh Jussie, now it’s my turn to wipe away tears. What a beautiful post. I’m sure we all felt the same way before and I know we certainly feel the same way after. You are such a brilliant hostess (with the mostest) and I am so grateful – you really made this whole thing come together by offering us your home and then your kind and loving nature took over. I’m amazed at how easily we all just fell into instant friendship. I love you both and can’t wait to do it again. xoxoxox

I am connected to many social media channels, both for professional and leisure activities, but I have always been very keen on keeping my privacy there, as much as possible.
The people I connected to, were the ones I knew already in person.
The blogging experience has changed my mindset. Since one year I have been befriending people on a virtual basis. At the beginning it sounded strange when someone called me a friend. I had a suspicion that this was never going go cross virtual reality and become real.
After one-year blogging, I experienced a different way to interact with people from all over the globe, and feel part of a community of likeminded people, even if many of them are anonymous faces.
I hadn’t changed my mind about virtual friendship though.
Having daily chats with Justine and Desley, started changing that thought. Still, when the meet up was proposed, I was reluctant to join and it was my husband who convinced me to give it a try.
Before I went there, I was totally convinced though.
How could someone be different offline than online, than the ever so friendly, open and generous Jussie? To offer her house to a bunch of strangers showed guts and trust in capital letters.
Think of this: She has two children. Desley, hubby and I could have been criminals. Ok, I’m exaggerating here, but these kinds of things happen.
Her wonderful husband was there too, and could have caught us, the perpetrators, and brought us to justice, if we would have been bad people…LOL.
What if the Frequent Flying Scientist Desley from Australia would be a crazy scientist, waking us up in the middle of the night to do biochemical experiments? LOL.
All turned to be just fine. Actually, magical and beautiful.
From pre-arrival to arrival, staying and departure times, we have been welcomed by a family, who wholeheartedly gave us the best experience we could have had. Every single detail was thought of carefully and affectionately, to make us feel home. From the delicious food, to the walks, the organization of our bedrooms, the visit to the pub and park, the game, and the goodbye breakfast, we met only perfection and love, genuinely and generously given by a superb host and hostess.
Yes, it is possible to make friends online. And I say today that I feel privileged to have crossed the path of the most wonderful human beings, who I now call friends, and always will.
I miss you dearly. chicas, but meanwhile we keep having our daily crazy chats, and blogging away, till the next meet up.
Thanks Jussie and boys; you made our days unforgettable.
And we all got out of the weekend, safe and sound, no police involved. I still wonder though if perhaps we should have checked if Desley wasn’t cheating to win the games!
    Love from Amsterdam.
    Lucile

you made me laugh at the end, I think maybe she had set up some mirrors around the house to be able to look at the cards right because Desley was superiorly good 😀

It was a total pleasure hosting and moreso to meet my online buddies that are besties now, I miss you both lots, miss our chats and it’s having the friendship across the waters now and many miles between but it will remain there as it is until we meet again.

I am planning on coming over for sure 🙂

Yes you are right that comment was nearly a blog post but a very welcomed one….big kisses to you Lucile and wolf hugs!!! 😀 ❤

hahaha that’s what scientist do. There was an invisible miniature drone there. I bet.
I am waiting now for your visit. I am already in talks with the Dutch Royals to learn how to host an English royal lady with the same high level of hospitality you offered us 😉
Actually my comment could have been a blog post. lol….
        Wolf hugs back at you.

I tried to write how a howl would sound giving a wolf hug but fell short, it got the better of me and yes I think your’e right drones may well have been used. Perhaps there is some evidence left, but I would need a scientist to tell hehe. Let’s get diaries out when we can speak properly, really looking forward to it 🙂 xx

hehehehe!! I found Stuart 😀 I hope he doesn’t get.. gobbled up or something lol. You ought to give this animated film a go. It’ll crack you up plenty – I’m sure Desley must have mentioned a thing or two about them. hahaha.

It’s really amazing what you chiccas did! Wish I was even half as gutsy as any of you were! Hope you’re friendships will stand the test of time 🙂 That shot of Mona Lisa is priceless! hehehe

This sounds like a wonderful time! Just this morning my son & I moved a buffet. I have an old french pottery chicken pot and when I took it down I found it had chocolate I had hidden away inside. I have no idea how old but at least a year or two, three???, but it looked fine (I wonder if the clay insulated it and prevented bloom) smelled fine, and yes, tasted fine! Breakfast of champions, I guess!
