Sequilhos, Brazilian Cookies – feedback needed!

Sequilhos, Brazilian Cookies

So I made these with my eldest for a school project, the subject matter to be anything Brazilian, so he found these.  I must say that they look really glorious, I was most impressed with them, however they had the oddest texture and taste.  I know I am not selling them well, but basically have you ever heard of these before?  If so, did you ever eat one?  If so what did it taste like?  Because I am trying to work out if these are the most uninteresting but glorious looking cookie type things I have ever made LOL.  Would love some feedback from experienced Sequilhos eaters!  Justine xx

Sequilhos, Brazilian Cookies

  • 500 grams cornflour (corn flour)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 100 grams unsalted butter (or margarine, room temperature)
  • 395 grams sweetened condensed milk (a can, not evaporated milk)
  • 2 large eggs

  1. Mix butter, eggs and sweetened condensed milk, blending well.
  2. Add corn starch, pinch of salt, and mix, first with a wooden spoon, then using hands until dough is smooth and shiny.
  3. Pinch small portions of the dough and make small round balls (1 inch) and flatten balls slightly using the botton of a glass, or use a fork to make “indentations” on the cookie.
  4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 180 degrees until golden. Do not overbake.

Welcome to Fiesta Friday Justine. Whatever you’ve made from Brazil looks absolutely amazing, thanks for this addition to our Fiesta. I love those chocolate centers. I’ll have to ask my Brazilian friend from Sao Paulo about these. 🙂 My thinking is if it has a can of condensed milk, they’ve got to be good! 🙂

The recipe sounds good. Lucile should know these! To me they look like a whoopie pie crossed with a macaron – what was the texture?? Condensed milk must be good! But I suspect the cornflour is what gives it a strange texture…

These sound good to me, Justine. With the condensed milk and chocolate? Hmmm…. 😀

I don’t know these cookies Justine, but they look good. When you use corn flour it will get another consistence and be more tough to roll. The corn flour keeps the fluid much better than usual flour and don’t dry so fast.
